History of the Block Heel
Dating as far back as the 17th century block heels were favourites among Persian hor riders who needed footwear that promised grip in stirrups. With horses being a sign of wealth, the style immediately became a fashion trend. Spreading to Europe, the style immediately became too common for the bougie elite, who responded by increasing the height of the heel. And so block heels were born- taking on a whole new range of styles, silhouettes and colours.
Fast Forward to 1965: Roger Vivier, a shoe-design legend, launched a new show silhouette, the Pilgrim Pump, the ushered in a new era featuring bold colours, hard edges & modern lines. Revved up by the women's movement, ladies were looking for gorgous shoes they could MOVE in. The Block Heel fit perfectly.
